Split It is provided by Octahedron Labs. This policy explains how the app processes information.

Receipt scanning

When you scan a receipt, the app sends a compressed copy of the image to an Octahedron Labs API hosted on Vercel. The service sends the image to OpenAI's API to extract line items and totals. The app stores the returned information and compressed image locally on your device.

Octahedron Labs does not intentionally store receipt images or parsed receipt contents in its application database. OpenAI states that API inputs and outputs are not used to train its models by default. Under OpenAI's default API settings, customer content may be retained in abuse-monitoring logs for up to 30 days unless another approved control applies or longer retention is legally required. Temporary operational logs may also be processed under Vercel's practices.

Do not scan receipts containing information you do not want processed by these services.

Device identifier and scan limits

The app sends Apple's Identifier for Vendor to enforce rate limits and the free scan allowance. Before storage, the production service transforms it using a keyed one-way hash. The resulting scan-count record expires after approximately 400 days without a successful scan.

For security, abuse prevention, and cost control, the service also stores separately keyed derivatives of network addresses. Minute-level records expire after approximately 60 seconds and daily records expire after approximately 24 hours.

The app may send Apple-signed transaction information to verify a Pro purchase. Purchase processing is provided by Apple.

Contacts

Contacts access is optional. If granted, the app reads contact names, thumbnails, identifiers, and phone numbers so you can label people and prepare messages. Contact information is stored locally with your saved receipt and is not sent to the receipt-processing API.

Information stored on your device

Saved receipts, item assignments, receipt images, names, optional contact details, payment handles, preferences, and cached purchase state are stored locally. Removing the app normally removes this local data, subject to device backups managed by Apple.

Sharing

When you use the system share sheet or Messages composer, you choose the destination and information to share. Those services operate under their own privacy policies.

Tracking, advertising, and sale

Split It does not contain advertising or third-party analytics SDKs and does not track users across other companies' apps or websites. Octahedron Labs does not sell personal information.

Service providers

The app relies on Apple, Vercel, OpenAI, and Upstash for purchases, API hosting, receipt processing, and pseudonymous scan-limit storage. Their processing is governed by their applicable terms and privacy policies.

Data requests and contact

For privacy questions or deletion requests, email support@octahedronlabs.com. Because the service stores only a keyed derivative of the device identifier, support may need additional information or an in-app request mechanism to locate a record.

Children

Split It is a general-audience utility and is not directed to children under 13.

Changes

We may update this policy when the app or its service providers change. The current version and effective date will be posted here.
